Kannagi is an anime unlike anything i have ever seen before. The opening song grabs your attention and is fun to listen to more than once. This anime is full of fun, jokes, cute girls, and cameo appearances. Episode one starts out pretty normal, most anime does, but it doesn't take long efore the craziness begins. Our resident land diety, Nagi, springs forth from a woodcraft carved from HER sacred tree. She's not too happy to hear her tree was cut down. However, Nagi moves on quickly and takes up her duty to rid the land of impurities. With her sacred tree gone, she insists that she needs to use an excorcism stick.....just wait until you see what she chooses to use as one. Where she gets it is even funnier, but it works for her.
Having no place to live, and no sort of ID of any kind, Nagi has no choice but to stay with Jin, the boy who was carving the woodcraft of a girl out of the piece of sacred tree. Yes, he lives alone....well, not anymore. Jin tries his best to get along with Nagi even though she makes it very difficult. At times, she can be selfish and be very unfair, but she really is kindhearted. Soon after Nagi gets settled in with Jin, Zange-chan makes her appearance as Nagi's younger sister. Even though Zange- chan dresses like a nun, she is far from holy. She aggrivates Nagi to no end. Before long, Jin starts to ask Nagi questions about her being a goddess and what she knows about the impurities. This upsets Nagi because she has no clue who she really is and knows almost nothing about the impurities or why they look like insects. During the last few episodes, Jin tries to do research on the land of Kannagi and the dieties who were worshipped in the past. He is unable to find any record of a diety named Nagi, but finds one elderly lady in town who may be able to tell him something. Nearing the end of the anime, Nagi runs off after a fight with Jin about who she really is. Without even knowing it, she stays in the hous of the old lady Jin spoke to earlier. After most of the episode goes by, Jin finally finds Nagi. They both learn a little more about her past, and Jin accepts her as a goddes of the land. Aside from the main story, each episode contains lots of fun with such a small number of characters. Thats right, theres only a few, so you don't need to memorize many names. It's only 13 episodes long, so it goes by quickly and so does the appearance of characters from other anime. I really enjoyed watching Kannagi, it's like a cold drink on a hot day.
